Many words and phrases in the French language have long become more than just Gallicisms in the lexicon different countries, but also truly famous quotes, used all the time in various strata of society. One of these popular expressions is “silvuple”. What this expression means is worth considering in detail in this article in order to know its application in conversation.
“Silvuple, dear guests”
This famous phrase, which became a catchphrase thanks to the stunning film “Love Story” and the unique voice of Tatyana Peltzer in particular, was not used in life except by a person completely behind the cultural heritage of cinema. The exquisite charm of the French language, combined with the unsurpassed flavor of old Soviet films, has earned this phrase a truly centuries-old life, and the film worldwide recognition.
What does this mean?
In fact, “silvuple” is a combination of three words in French: S"il vous plaît. Loosely translated into Russian, it means “please” or “be kind,” but in fact, in the literal version it sounds: “if you wish.”
It is used in different cases and turns of phrase: both in the form of a simple polite response to “merci”, agreement with something, and as an addition to various requests, motivating phrases in colloquial speech. For example:
